Ultrasound examinations

How does an ultrasound examination work?

Ultrasound allows doctors to assess organs, tissues and blood vessels in real time. The examination is painless, does not use ionizing radiation, and the patient receives the result immediately after the visit.

Image created with ultrasound waves

The probe emits sound waves that are inaudible to humans and reflect from the examined tissues. The received signals are then processed by a computer into a detailed image visible on the monitor.

No pain and no radiation

Ultrasound is non-invasive and painless. Because it does not use X-rays, it can also be performed during pregnancy and, depending on medical indications, repeated multiple times.

Results available immediately

The doctor assesses the image during the examination, so the patient receives a report and guidance on next steps without a long wait. In many cases, ultrasound helps quickly decide whether a specialist consultation or additional diagnostics are needed.

The doctor’s experience matters

Modern equipment provides high image quality, but it does not make the diagnosis on its own. The doctor’s knowledge, understanding of anatomy and physiology, and experience in assessing pathological changes are essential.

Who is ultrasound intended for?

Ultrasound can be performed, among others, in people with metal implants or pacemakers, pregnant women and patients who feel discomfort in enclosed spaces. The examination does not require staying inside a scanner tunnel, as is the case with MRI.

Why start diagnostics with ultrasound?

In many situations, ultrasound is one of the first diagnostic examinations. It allows assessment of internal organs, soft tissues, muscles, joints, blood vessels, and selected injuries and inflammatory conditions.

The combination of a modern ultrasound system and the experience of a radiologist enables an accurate assessment of the examined area and planning of further steps. If needed, the doctor may recommend a specialist consultation, laboratory tests, MRI, CT or another diagnostic method.
